surfing continued

Once you come out of the barrel it’s a totally different sensation than riding in the barrel. The wave opens up and you can do whatever you want to do. Once your riding on the face of the wave, the open area of the wave where there is no whitewater, your creativity can take over and you can start stringing together big turns cutbacks or numerous other difficult maneuvers. Learning these maneuvers takes years of practice and I have only mastered a select few of the cutbacks and carving maneuvers. Surfers who are extremely skilled can pull airs or boosts as they are called in surfing.  Only a very small percentage of surfers are capable of doing airs but those who can do a wide variety of tricks one of the most popular is a simple spin without grabbing the board as seen in the video posted at the bottom of the post. All of the things described in this post happen over a time span of only a few seconds and over a distance of as long as a few hundred yards but mostly rides last for maybe 5 or 6 seconds and only go for about 100 feet max.

surfing

Surfing is perhaps my favorite past time for many reasons. Surfing is the best cure for any hard times that you may be going through emotionally or physically. While in the water I forget about all hardships that await me on land and focus purely at improving my skills at the sport I love all the while having fun.. The feeling of catching a wave big or small can’t be replicated ever. From the fast and violent takeoff where you are thrown off a ledge of water barley in control to when your fins finally catch and you can begin to pump down the line and gain a ton of speed. After that first bottom turn you can go up and hit the lip as it cascades toward you. If the conditions are especially good you may be able to get a tube ride where you are completely covered up by the wave and the feeling is complete bliss. While in the tube time seems to slow way down and you notice every drop of water cascade above and over you and you hear the wave breaking all around you as it sounds like a freight train is right on the tail of your board. more on surfign on my next post

Hello all my focus for this blog will be on anything and everything that fun to do in the ocean or large bodies of water. I will be mainly focusing on activities that I am familiar with including surfing, spearfishing, lobster diving, fishing, boating, wakeboarding, and jetskiing. But before I get in depth about any of these activities I would like to tell a little bit about background first. I grew up in Lakewood California until I was about 12 years old where I had little to no experience around water or any of the activities previously listed but in fourth grade my family moved to Seal Beach and my first summer there they enroled me into the Junior Lifeguard program there. The first few years that i did the program I utterly hated it. It was just all workouts and no fun at all but over the years it grew on me and I began to fall in love with the ocean. And thats where i started to really get into surfing which i will go over in my next post
